Olympian Labs has a product that is formulated to target the Herpes virus by boosting the immune system. We liked that they offer a long-term solution that includes clinically proven ingredients that are all-natural, which we felt was a great start. We studied their formula to find out whether it is truly effective and while we were ultimately impressed, it did fall short when compared to our first pick.
Herp-Eeze has a powerful daily dose of Prunella vulgaris (900 mg) which is meant to provide significant antioxidant properties. The company claims this ingredient helps fight against viruses, helping destroy them. The ingredient that really caught our attention is L-lysine. This supplement offers a generous amount of 800 mg L-lysine per daily serving. The amount is still not as high as we would have liked it to be (ideally it should be at 1000 mg per daily serving), however we liked that this was one of the main ingredients. L-lysine has shown to be highly effective in combating Shingles and helping the body retain a strong immune system.
It is clear to see that this is a top-rated product, so we were surprised to see that the only vitamins and minerals in this formula are Vitamin C and Zinc. While we were glad to see these included, we were left wondering why the manufacturer didn’t include B vitamins or Vitamin D which are essential for repairing nerve damage and boosting the immune system. This is definitely disappointing.
The next ingredients we looked into were the herbs that were included in the formula. The herbs used in this formula include Prunella Vulgaris, Olive Leaf, Acerola, Clove extract and Melon. These all provide antiviral properties and have been researched into their effectiveness at inhibiting the growth of Herpes. While it is understood from the manufacturer’s website that this product is for all types of viruses that are connected to Herpes, which is why Shingles falls under that category, looking at their formula this is hard to believe. We would have liked to see something like Lemon Balm here, known for its soothing properties, along with Carvacrol and Proteolytic Enzymes which have powerful anti-inflammatory benefits.
Finally, an ingredient that we always look out for, BioPerine®, was sadly missed out here too. We feel this is a real shame just because it adds so much benefit to any supplement since it has strong bioavailable benefits, helping the supplement absorb faster in the body, bringing on results faster. Is Olympian Labs Herp-Eeze Effective?
We were happy to find plenty of reviews on this product. Mainly positive reviews, some were negative, claiming the capsules were covered in a residue that was unappealing and that they didn’t work. However, there were enough positive reviews for us to feel confident about the effectiveness of this product. It is important to take into consideration that these reviews were about Cold Sores and Herpes, they were not about how effective this product was for Shingles. So we do question whether or not it is actually effective at combating Shingles. We noticed that this company sells a wide range of products, so it seems a bit of a missed opportunity that they don’t have a Shingles-specific product.
Another point we always look out for is the guarantee. Here we were greatly disappointed. There is no guarantee for this product, which means if you are not satisfied, there is no way for you to get your money back. While the cost is a fair price for a high-quality product, it is not cheap. Laying out $55-$65 is not to be taken lightly when the manufacturer doesn’t back up his own product. We did find a returns policy where you can send the unopened item back within 30 days. This is just disappointing.
Is Olympian Labs Herp-Eeze Safe?
In general there is no reason for this product not to be considered safe to take. The ingredients are all natural, pure ingredients and there are no added fillers or artificial ingredients. The product is made in a cGMP facility. As with all supplements however, we recommend consulting with your health care provider before starting any new regimen.
Summary
We always like finding a product that is based on science and clinical research because in our opinion, that is the most likely to be successful. There is something to be said about a company that uses researched facts to back up its product instead of random celebrities. The ingredients used in Olympian Labs’ products are all researched ingredients for combating Herpes. While we were looking for a product specifically for Shingles, we found there are not so many supplements available. Companies like this have taken a supplement that is for Herpes, and made claims that it can be used for Shingles too because they share a common virus. This is a misconception. Shingles is a completely different virus to Herpes and should be treated as such.
Having said that, there are ingredients in this product that have proven beneficial at combating Shingles too. For example, L-lysine and Vitamin C are both ingredients we look out for. L-lysine has a strong reputation for getting rid of Shingles, and Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant as well as a soothing agent to help relieve the pain. Together they also help strengthen the immune system which is really the most important part of getting rid of a virus. The dosage however, is another issue we have with this product. The amount of L-lysine in one daily serving is only 800 mg, and according to our research, for it to be really effective for Shingles, it should be 1000 mg. In addition, to take one daily serving, you are required to consume 4 capsules. This seems quite excessive.
Seeing as this is not a Shingles-specific product, it is obvious that there are critical ingredients missing, such as B vitamins, Carvacrol, Proteolytic Enzymes and adaptogenic mushrooms. However there are still certain ingredients that should be here, such as Lemon Balm for calming properties and BioPerine® for faster and more effective results.
The final issue that is important to point out in conjunction with Olympian Labs is that there is no money-back guarantee. This leaves us questioning whether the manufacturer truly believes in his product. When a company does not give a satisfaction guarantee, it makes us question the product and how effective it really is. Anyone who truly believes in their product would not hesitate to give a guarantee, proving that they fully stand behind their product. If they don’t believe in their own product, how do they expect anyone else to?
